Classification: hand tool
Down throughout history, this tool has been used to build and demolish- from blacksmith work, to laying the railroad, to the present demolition day. The sledgehammer is able to distribute force over a wide area, making it ideal for breaking through dry wall or masonry walls.
John Henry, American legend and hero, raced against a steam powered hammer and won with his own trusty sledgehammer in his hand. Sadly, his heart gave out from stress. He is forever immortalized as the man with the hammer in his hand.
Present day mining operations, farm and oil field work, and even resistance training for upper body work outs, requires one of these beauties.
